Ecosystem is a term recently used in business to describe a market segment. Aken from ecology, it reflects that the segment is not just made up of customers – the competitors, channels, third party network, compliments and substitutes all interract with each other dynamically.
In an analogy to evolution in the natural world, the company whose business model best fits the ecosystem will make the most profit. The competitive game is played out over these ecosystems as in a terrain in the natural world.
